Our Story
Hi everyone!
I want to personally welcome you to Slide Hustle on 3rd, where it's our joy to bring our mission of Ohana to life here — everyone greeted gets treated like family and everyone leaves feeling like a foodie!
We are a little neighborhood cafe that I dreamt up a long time ago and I'm blessed to finally bring it to life right here in Germantown, Nashville. We carefully worked to preserve the history of this sweet 110-year-old cottage house, and you'll see little nods to that here and there throughout the property. The family bar table is the original front door, restored and built by my friend Tony, and the greeting stand is one of the first pieces of furniture. The random horseshoes and cowboys give hints to the land use back in the day she was built.
My hometown of Kona, Hawaii is where I grew up listening to my dad playing guitar for us, and going to rodeos and riding horses in the lush valleys, usually with my mom. Her name was Carol, "Kalola" — and she loved Ahi. You'll always see that one on the menu.
They both worked hard, and I grew up lovingly creating "potions and experiments" for my younger sibs out of gifts left on our front porch from our generational Hawaiian neighbors — styrofoam coolers filled with family-foraged bounty from the land. I played with fresh-caught fish and seashells, sometimes even a side of wild boar or turkey, and I added the mangos, lilikoi, guava and fresh herbs that grew in and around my mom's little coops and gardens.
Later in life, I just couldn't get enough of passionately sharing my creations with pretty much everyone I knew… so I went off and learned how to (properly) cook. I did a lot of things with that — a gourmet slider food truck, cooking classes, lots of cool catering gigs.
When I moved to Nashville in early '22, a local coffee house was about to open and asked me to do my first pop-up here, so I did sliders… in a tent, in the snow, alone.
Four years and hundreds of popups and cooking gigs later, I looked at my tiny staff and promised them (God willing) that we'd have our own place by the end of that year. God must have heard that promise — and all the intricate, unspoken details I had been dreaming of for so long — because here we are in this special place, serving you with all we've got today!
May the true spirit of hospitality, warmth and Ohana shower you with every bite!
